A ‘Blog’ is a type of website that is typically:
- easily updated and changes with regular posts
- organized in reverse chronological order
- inclusive of text, images, video, slides, google maps and widgets and much much more
- something you can subscribe to using RSS
Using an RSS feed, you can be sent an message in your mail account as soon as the blog is updated. This is a great way to manage blog content (including student blogs), because it means you don’t have to check each blog to see if it has been updated.
Like other websites, you can also bookmark posts that are of interest, using social bookmarking sites like Delicious, Reddit, Furl and Digg. Down the bottom of this post, you will see the links to these popular social bookmarking sites.
Here are links to some great examples of blogs being used in schools. Note the different purposes for each:
Ringwood North Primary School Blog
Friday Vox Pop – School Blog and Podcast
As you can see, these blogs are made in a variety of different platforms, including iWeb, Edublogs, Wordpress and Global Student. There are many more too!

I am thinking about planning some professional development for Principal’s in Queensland in the use of Web 2.0 to assist their Management and leadership. We are already attacking the very important ICT and pedagogy vision but I think there is potential to help principal’s get out of the bog down in e-mail issue and engage with the new tech. Anyone got Ideas on what Principal’s could benefit from to enghance their management, communication and operationals.
