A ‘Blog’ is a type of website that is typically:

  • easily updated and changes with regular posts
  • organized in reverse chronological order
  • inclusive of text, images, video, slides, google maps and widgets and much much more
  • something you can subscribe to using RSS

Using an RSS feed, you can be sent an message in your mail account as soon as the blog is updated. This is a great way to manage blog content (including student blogs), because it means you don’t have to check each blog to see if it has been updated.

Like other websites, you can also bookmark posts that are of interest, using social bookmarking sites like Delicious, Reddit, Furl and Digg. Down the bottom of this post, you will see the links to these popular social bookmarking sites.

Here are links to some great examples of blogs being used in schools. Note the different purposes for each:

Ringwood North Primary School Blog

Friday Vox Pop – School Blog and Podcast

Mr Barlow’s Blog

iPod Touch Trial Project Blog

Techno6 – Grade 6 Class Blog

Year 9 Student Blog

As you can see, these blogs are made in a variety of different platforms, including iWeb, Edublogs, Wordpress and Global Student. There are many more too!
