This is our first feature post for ‘09 and boy have we got an event for you! This is one NOT to be missed! The ITSC is for both IT Professionals and Educators. It’s your chance to become truly immersed in what is said to be the most exciting Professional Development event of the year… and it’s coming to a town near you!

Go beyond spreadsheets and word processing to truly engage your students. Today’s technology has made it so simple to create rich multimedia content. The ITSC conference provides yet another (besides Beyond Chalk) opportunity to learn from the experts.

The different Streams allow you to immerse yourself in whatever field is of particular interest to you. For example: Digital Literacy includes sessions on Podcasting (Introduction and Advanced), Blogs and Digital Portfolios. There’s even a session on Web 2.0 in the classroom!

The Leadership Stream includes sessions Engaging Your Community and Teacher Professional Development and more…

Other streams include Fundamentals & Media literacy.

Beyond Chalk will be presenting three sessions at the upcoming VITTA conference. There are more than 250 speakers over the three days, which run from Monday 24th of November to Wednesday 26th of November. Click here for the conference program and registration details. As well as the regular program, VITTA have also organised a Principals and ICT leaders program.

The phone war continues (or begins?)

A quick tech news update…

No doubt you’re aware of the popularity of the iPhone. It’s no surprise, it’s ground breaking. The iPhone however is not just a phone, the touch screen technology is a fraction of what makes it unique. It’s operating system is a platform for developers all over the world to write new programs to sell or give away for use on the phone via the App Store.

So Apple are making huge waves in the great mobile phone industry, but wait, who’s that other giant approaching?!

It’s none other than the big G, Google.

Meet the G-phone. I’d imagine it’ll be quite a while before we see it on Australia’s shores, but it’s recently moved from speculation to reality, going on sale today in Britain and pre-order’s have already sold out.

Powered by Google’s own mobile operating system called Android, like the iPhone, 3rd party developer’s will be able to develop applications which will run on the phone.

eLearning Innovation Expo

A mix of high class speakers and workshops will make up the eLearning Innovation Expo held in Brisbane on Tuesday 19th August.

Notable speakers include:

“Twenty-six year old Michael Furdyk, who was one of Teen People’s 20 teens that will change the world, has spoken to more than 50,000 educators around the world about the importance of engaging students and integrating technology and global perspectives into the classroom.”
